A look at the life and career of Cush Jumbo

Born and raised in London, Jumbo began dance lessons at the age of 3, learning tap, ballet and modern dance. She then learned street dancing, contemporary dance, ballroom dancing and Latin over the next few years.

Jumbo never had it easy growing up. She went into acting with rather modest expectations.

“I was poor, I grew up poor and even though in my early years I never made any money, I never got into acting to make money. All I ever wanted was to not have to work as a waitress; to be able to act full time and not owe anyone money,” she said in an interview with the Guardian.

She began her career in theater and made her Broadway debut in 2014 when she appeared in Jez Butterworth’s “The River,” alongside Laura Donnelly and Hugh Jackman.

The CBS series “The Good Wife” was the turning point in her career and she later also reprized her role in the series’ spin-off “The Good Fight”.

The 38-year-old actress will next be seen sharing the screen with Peter Capaldi in the British crime series ‘Criminal Record’. It is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on January 10, 2024.
