‘Disappointing’: Kim Kardashian faces backlash for attending Balenciaga event amid controversy

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kardashian star Kim Kardashian recently shared a series of behind-the-scenes images from the Balenciaga show in Los Angeles, two weeks after the show.

In the photos, Kim flaunted her curves in black and nude leggings with a cream turtleneck and black zipper. The reality TV star posed alongside her sister Kendall Jenner who wore a maxi black dress.

Kim also shared photos with movie star Salma Hayek and her husband François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering and chairman of the Artemis Group. Additionally, Kim posed with Cardi B, who made her runway debut at the Balenciaga fall show.

Kim also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of herself with her youngest daughter, Chicago. The star posted a photo with Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia.

The Balenciaga 2023 show came a year after consumers claimed the brand’s ad campaign showed children posing with bears wearing BDSM clothing, which promoted “child exploitation.”

So it’s no wonder Kim received backlash for attending the Balenciaga event after the controversial 2022 holiday campaign.

Balenciaga apologizes after allegedly encouraging ‘child exploitation’

In 2022, Balenciaga released two campaigns owned by Kering, the French luxury conglomerate that also owns brands like Gucci and Saint Laurent. The first campaign featured photos of children holding handbags that resemble teddy bears in bondage gear.

Another campaign featured photos containing materials about child pornography laws. Both ad campaigns sparked controversy on the Internet. Fans accused Balenciaga of condoning child exploitation.

Two weeks after this violent reaction, the brand published a press release admitting “a series of serious errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility”.

The fashion house also announced on its website its ongoing “internal and external investigations” and “new controls” and said it was contacting “organizations specializing in child protection and aimed at ending abuse and exploitation of children.

Kim Kardashian loses thousands of followers after Balenciaga event

After Kim Kardashian attended the recent Balenciaga Fall 2024 fashion show, she lost thousands of followers on social media. Kim faced backlash and reportedly lost around 30,000 followers on Instagram.

However, Kim’s sister Kendall Jenner and rapper Cardi B also lost their Instagram followers. Although Cardi B walked the track, she reportedly only lost 133.

Meanwhile, Kendal loses over 50,000 followers. Surprisingly, Nicole Kidman, who was announced as the new brand ambassador around the same time as the show, gained followers instead of losing them, with her follower count increasing by around 5,000.

Kim Kardashian prays for Balenciaga dress

Kim Kardashian recently had a war with TV host Lauren Sánchez over a Balenciaga couture dress. In a recent interview with Vogue, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Sánchez spoke about the bond between him and Kim.

As the women fought over the dress at the Kering Foundation auction during New York Fashion Week, Kim suggested the two “share it.” She said, “I was thinking, you wear it once, I’ll wear it once, it’ll be so cute.”

Seeing how much Kim and Sánchez wanted this look, the Kering Foundation offered to make two dresses and the women paid $200,000 each.
