Here’s why Marvel’s Echo star Alaqua Cox is an inspiration to the Indigenous, Deaf, and amputee communities

LOS ANGELES, CALFORNIA: Alaqua Cox plays Marvel’s first deaf hero in the upcoming series “Echo.” For those who don’t know her, the American actress triumphed over the challenges of her physical disability to become a star in the MCU.

Although Cox is also an amputee with a prosthetic leg, the details of how she lost her leg have never been revealed.

During an interview with ABC7 Eyewitness News, Cox said, “I can advocate for many communities, and most of them are underrepresented. »

She added: “I’m excited that they can see themselves through me on screen. I hope they think that they can do anything they want and that they can achieve anything.”

As a long-time Marvel fan, Cox is proud to champion the interests of people like herself, as she said: “From the indigenous community to the deaf community to the amputee community, I I wish I had this experience when I was little.”

She added: “I’m happy to have this experience for them now.”

Cox, playing Maya Lopez/Echo in Marvel’s upcoming miniseries “Echo,” shares a unique bond with her character. Both Cox and Maya were born deaf.

Born in 1997 in Keshena, Wisconsin, to Elena and Bill Cox, she attended a school for the deaf.

What is Alaqua Cox doing now?

Cox is having the time of his life! After making her acting debut in 2021 with Marvel’s “Haweye,” she is gearing up for the release of her own spinoff miniseries “Echo,” scheduled to release simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024.

“I still can’t believe I gave birth to this beautiful baby boy,” she said in one of her Instagram posts. Cox, however, has never revealed the identity of her fiancé.
