what to know

The Cavaliers have enjoyed a six-game homestand, but they will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena on Saturday at 7:30 pm ET. The Cavaliers are expected to win (but not by much) so they will have to come to the game ready to fight.

It’s a little easier to win when you work as a team to dish out 17 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Cavaliers proved on Wednesday. They defeated Milwaukee 135–95 at home. That 40-point difference makes it the best rookie team total for the Cavaliers this season.

The Cavaliers’ success was driven by the efforts of Georges Niang, who scored 33 points with five rebounds, and Donovan Mitchell, who scored 31 points with seven assists and five rebounds. This matchup was Mitchell’s third consecutive game with at least 30 points. Jarrett Allen was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Hawks started their encounter on Friday with two consecutive wins, but they fell to three wins in a row. Not to be outdone by Miami, Atlanta beat Miami on a last-second jump shot courtesy of Dejounte Murray with 2 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

It was Cleveland’s sixth consecutive win at home, taking their record to 24–15. These good results were largely due to his offensive dominance during that period, as he averaged 121.0 points per game. As for Atlanta, their win improved their record to 18–23.

This is a contest where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: The Cavaliers haven’t given the ball away easily this season, averaging just 13.3 turnovers per game. However, it’s not like the Hawks struggle in that department as they are averaging just 13.3 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how they clash.

The Cavaliers were able to pick up a solid win over the Hawks, winning 127-119 in their previous matchup in December of 2023. The rematch may be a bit difficult for the Cavaliers because this time the team will not get the home court advantage. We’ll see if the change in venue makes any difference.

Oddsmakers had a good feel for the line for this one, as the game started with the Cavaliers as 1.5-point favorites.

The over/under is set at 231 points.
