List of NFL teams with the most Super Bowl trophies

The Super Bowl is around the corner and the ultimate prize is up for grabs in the USA’s biggest sports league. The annual league championship has been the final game of the NFL season since 1966. Vince Lombardi is up for grabs as the San Francisco 49ers vs. The Kansas City Chiefs will battle it out for the 2024 Super Bowl, but who will win? Most Super Bowls in history?

Tom Brady’s New England Patriots aren’t the only team with six Super Bowls. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers with six titles. The New England Patriots made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1985 in 2018. On the other hand, the Pittsburgh Steelers made their Super Bowl appearance in 1974 while their last appearance came in 2010.

New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers with six titles

The New England Patriots first title came in 2001. It was their third Super Bowl appearance after losing the first two in 1985 and 1996. They won back-to-back titles in 2003 and 2004. They reached two other Super Bowls. Finals in 2007 and 2011 before winning their next championship in 2014. Additionally, they won their fifth title in 2016 and sixth in 2018.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were a dominant team in the 1970s. They won four titles in six years to cement their lineage in NFL history. The Steelers won back-to-back titles in 1974 and 1975. They returned to win back-to-back titles in 1978 and 1979. They returned to the Super Bowl in 1995 but ultimately lost.

The Pittsburgh team won their fifth title in 2005 and their sixth in 2008. They had a chance to win a seventh title in 2010 but fell short against the Green Bay Packers. Since then, they have yet to return to the biggest football match in America.

Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers with five wins

The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers are tied for second on the list with five Super Bowl wins. The Dallas Cowboys last made it to the Super Bowl in 1995. They played five times in the 1970s with only two titles in 1971 and 1977. The Cowboys were dominant in the 1990s with three wins in 1992, 1993 and 1995. Tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos with eight Super Bowl appearances.

The San Francisco 49ers won their title in 1981 and solidified their dynasty by the end of the 1980s. They won four titles in the 1980s with titles in 1981, 1984, 1988 and 1989. They won another in 1994 to make it five, but haven’t added another since. The 49ers reached two more Super Bowls in 2012 and 2019 but finished second on both occasions.

Super Bowl LVIII will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. The San Francisco 49ers have a chance to join the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers with six titles with a win against the Kansas City Chiefs on February 11, 2024.
