what to know

Miss State is 8-2 against the Tigers since January 2018 and will have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The two teams will face off in an SEC battle at Mizzou Arena at 8:30 p.m. Miss. State hopes to end an eight-game losing streak from last season.

Winning is a little easier when you work as a team to get 13 more assists than your opponent, Miss State proved Wednesday. They walked away with a 75-62 win over the Bulldogs. The win was just what Miss State needed after a 99-67 loss in their previous contest.

Cameron Mathews and Tolu Smith Miss. were among the key playmakers for State as the former nearly dropped a double-double at nine points and 11 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double at 19 points and 12 rebounds. Matthews missed Saturday against the Crimson Tide. Stats didn’t help the cause but the same can’t be said for this game. Another player who made the difference was Deshaun Davis, who scored five points with eight assists and two steals.

Meanwhile, Missouri’s recent rough patch got a little rougher after their tenth straight loss on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a bruising 79-60 walloping at the hands of the Aggies. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Missouri in their matchups with the Aggies: they have now lost four in a row.

Losses don’t tell the whole story though, as many players had good games. One of the most active was Tamar Betts, who scored 20 points.

The Bulldogs’ win bumped their record to 15-8. As for the Tigers, they haven’t been great lately as the team has lost 13 of their last 14 games, significantly dropping their record to 8-15 this season.

Saturday’s game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Miss. Stat has been crushing the glass this season, averaging 39.5 rebounds per game. It’s a different story for Missouri, though, as they’re averaging just 31.6 rebounds per game. Miss in that area. Given Stat’s big advantage, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.

As for their next game, Miss State is the favorite in this one, as experts expect them to win by 6.5 points. Bettors picking them against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly), as the team is sitting on a six-game streak of failing to cover when playing on the road.

Miss State is a solid 6.5-point favorite over Missouri, according to the latest college basketball odds.

The line has shifted slightly toward the Bulldogs, as the game opened with the Bulldogs as 5-point favorites.

The over/under is set at 139.5 points.
