Tom Telesco remains in the AFC West. The Las Vegas Raiders have hired a former Los Angeles Chargers executive as their next general manager. Team announced on Tuesday. Telesco, 51, beat out finalists interim GM Champ Kelly and Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds, according to Jones. The appointment comes after Telesco interviewed twice with the Raiders throughout the recruiting process.

Telesco was the Chargers’ GM for a decade after being hired by the team in 2013 after moving up the front-office ranks with the Indianapolis Colts. In his 11-season tenure, LA went 84–95, hired three head coaches and had only two playoff wins. Their biggest accomplishment was the selection of quarterback Justin Herbert in 2020. Despite being identified as a franchise signal-caller, he was fired along with head coach Brandon Staley on December 10 of this season, coincidentally after a 63–21 loss to the Raiders in Week 15.

Given that Telesco’s Chargers went up against the Raiders twice a year over the past decade, he should be extremely familiar with the roster as he now crosses division rival lines. With Pierce being hired as the full-time head coach and Telesco as the GM, the two can now focus on building toward 2024 after the Raiders went 8-9 last season.

Telesco will be armed with a full wardrobe of draft picks this spring, including the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After the dismissals of head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler, as well as the midseason failure of the Jimmy Garoppolo experiment, priority No. 1 may certainly be finding a quarterback for the franchise, as well as the high ceiling of rookie Aidan O’Connell. Reasons for not doing it.

Las Vegas currently has approximately $43.5 million in available cap space, which is 12th most in the league. Meanwhile, Josh Jacobs is the club’s most notable rising free agent.
