“Real World” alum Sarah Becker has died by suicide at 52

“The Real World” alum Sarah Becker has died by suicide, according to her family. She was 52.

Becker’s relatives told TMZ on Sunday that she died early last week at her home in Illinois. She moved to the area last year to take care of some loved ones, but had plans to move back to California.

The family told the outlet that Becker recently started having mental health issues while he was a caregiver for his sick mom and sister and also suffered a skateboarding accident recently.

Becker starred in Season 5 of the MTV reality series in 1996.

At the time she was 25 years old and working at Wildstorm Comics in La Jolla, California, and described herself as “a 19-year-old trapped in a 25-year-old body.”

As news of Becker’s death surfaced, several of her friends took to social media to pay tribute to her.

“I saw the news today that we lost one of everyone’s favorite people from WildStorm, Sarah Becker,” author Jeff Mariotte wrote on Facebook Sunday. “Even if you weren’t into cartoons in the ’90s, you might remember her from ‘The Real World’ (and from the opening episode of her season, some of which was filmed in our offices and at Sarah’s wild going-away party) .”

Mariotte said Becker “added sunshine to every room she walked into, the fans loved her, and so did we all.”

Joel Benjamin wrote, “I just figured this one out [sic] the most beautiful people that have ever been brought into my life, especially as my impressionable ages in my life passed. Every time I thought of her, I would always see her smile and bubbly personality. You were loved and will be missed. RIP Sarah Becker.”

Comic artist Alé Garza wrote on Facebook that Becker’s death was “such sad news to wake up to.”

“I’ll never forget seeing your smile as you rolled by the pit in roller skates, topping me on my high socks, making me blush,” Garza added.

“You were the one who discovered my art in a pile of photocopies, I owe it all to you wonderful person, over the rainbow, you will be missed rest in peace Sarah Becker💕.”
