Spain’s Luis de la Fuente cautions after extending winning run with 1-0 win over Albania

Spain’s fairytale journey in UEFA Euro 2024 continues with a narrow 1-0 win over Albania, thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres. Manager, Luis de la Fuente, had the privilege of resting his first team due to the reason of qualification being made an agreement. The support squad, however, was also in sync with the pace of the game and secured a 100% record in the group stages. “The footballers do things very well.”were the words of the happy Spanish coach after the encounter.

As for Albania, the run in the European championship is over. The nation did not carry much hope going into the tournament but it was an enjoyable watch for the football fans. Albania gave Italy a run for their money with a remarkable last-minute equalizer against Croatia on matchday two. Ultimately, individual quality proved to be the nemesis for Albania, who will surely be looking forward to upcoming events with much more fervor.

Spain’s perfect run continues

UEFA Euro 2024 has not seen a more consistent competitor than Spain so far. Luis de la Fuente and his side were not viewed by many as one of the contenders to go all the way, largely due to the rigidity around their style of play. The 63-year-old coach, however, has clearly been working on a more dynamic game plan, which was evident in the dominance and fluidity that Spain enjoyed.

With the win over Albania, the Spanish made sure to bag all nine points available. Having already secured first place, The Red will now be the beneficiary of a more favorable draw in the round of 16. Spain has been void of small details like this in the past, which has led to disappointing results. The entire competition, meanwhile, will now be concerned about the threat that the three-time European champions can offer.

Albania’s defeat ensures qualification for Italy

The last round of the group stages in the European championship never fails to make the calculators work to evaluate the permutations and combinations surrounding qualification to the round of 16. Leading into the match, all three of Italy, Croatia, and Albania had the opportunity to do it to the knockout stages.

Italy’s victory over Croatia and Albania’s corresponding defeat against Spain take the Italians to four points and secure second place. Had Albania beaten Spain by a margin of more than two goals, they would have topped Italy in Group B. The perfect finish for the Albanians was not meant to be, as the defending champions Italy cheered for a place in the next round. .
