The Denver Nuggets Are the Biggest Losers of the NBA Offseason

Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets are a team that many NBA fans expected to make some significant upgrades to their roster this offseason. As most members of the basketball community will know, the Nuggets managed to win the 2023 NBA championship.

However, the team was eliminated from title contention in the second round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves. As a result, fans assumed that the Nuggets would make some improvements to their roster to prevent recent incidents from happening in the near future.

However, Denver went in the opposite direction regarding roster upgrades. That said, let’s take a closer look at the situation and find out more.

The Denver Nuggets lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson

While the vast majority of teams with the exception of the Boston Celtics have made some update or addition to their roster, the Denver Nuggets have made no significant move this offseason. In fact, they ended up letting Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope join other teams.

Considering that KCP was a starter on the Nuggets and undoubtedly an important member of the roster, it could be argued that the team got significantly worse after losing Kentavious. After all, the Nuggets didn’t sign any other players to replace KCP or Reggie Jackson.

The story that is being spread around the NBA is that it is impossible to form dynasties or win championships consistently like in the 2010s. If the Nuggets are looking to win another title in the near future, they need to do better in terms of acquisition and roster management.

What other teams have done poorly so far this offseason?

The Lakers are another obvious team to mention. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs by the Nuggets again, all the Lakers have managed to do this offseason is hire a new coach, give LeBron a new contract and draft Bronny James. While that makes for a good story, it certainly doesn’t mean the Lakers had a good offseason.

Some other teams that should not be forgotten include the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat. Miami has made it to the Finals twice in recent history but failed to get the job done. The team’s inability to build a contending roster is a problem.

The Bucks added Damian Lillard to their roster and waived Jrue Holiday, who went to the Celtics and promptly won a title. While injuries can be used to justify their lack of success this season, Milwaukee should definitely be on the lookout for improving their roster.
